What might be needed to convert a desktop machine to a docking station?

I've got a desktop with a 1.7GHz Celeron and alot of peripherals in the case (DVD Writer, Video capture card, 240GB of HD space, etc). I'd like to have my 2.66 GHz P4 laptop be able to use the stuff in the desktop -- especially the video capture card and the DVD Writer -- at the lowest cost.

Any suggestions, or ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

You could share the hard drive space and dvd writer (reading only) fairly easily. If the capture card is PCI (I assume it is) I doubt there is any way to share that.

To share the HD and dvd writer simply right click on them and do share. This is assuming you have a home network. If not you will need at the very least a network card in both computers and a crossover cable.

i guess you could get an ide to usb convertor and rig it up to the drives to you could hit a switch or somthing that would switch them over, the capture card i dont believe will be possible. i know of no software that will allow you to create a virtual device like that.

this is my boomstick!
