Code 0x80070017 installation failure

Old laptop , 7 yrs old...
Can't install Windows 7 from original DVD , I formatted the HDD twice and still, same error. The installation stops after 10-15 min with this error code 0x80070017 I know the media is in great condition, so exclude this problem. Maybe HDD failure ? I did the format and wipe via usb with MiniTool partition wizard .
I'm in cmd prompt now, did a chkdsk /r What else can I do?

Expanding Windows files (0%)... - hangs here for like 10 min than the error comes up

Oh well, I'm trying Ubuntu now

so Ubuntu installed fine, however can't install Windows, gives me same error.
Also I get Bootmgr missing
I've tried:
- bootrec /FixMbr
- bootrec /FixBoot
- bootrec /RebuildBcd

All without success

The HDD is formated as NTFS

Now I'm trying different tools on Ultimate Boot CD

Well. nothing worked so I decided to install the good ol' XP , and did it successfully. After that i installed the Windows 7.
Now I know what happened , a while ago I installed Ubuntu and that messed up the hdd some way that Windows 7 couldn't fix it. But worked with the XP disc. After that i was able to install again Windows 7.
