If you are currently having problems with your XP Home
installation, upgrading to XP Pro will likely not solve them.
I would suggest performing a "repair install" of your current
XP Home installation.

If you do an upgrade, you should lose nothing. If you do a clean
installation, you will lose everything.

But even with an upgrade there are no guarantees that it always
works perfectly. However unlikely, it's always possible that
something might go wrong. For that reason it's prudent to be sure
you have a backup of anything you can't afford to lose before
beginning.

"Getting up"? Do you mean booting? If so, upgrading to
Professional will do nothing for you. In fact, if you're
currently having problems, trying to do an upgrade will more
likely exacerbate the situation than anything else.

That's true but where did the OP indicate anything about having
problems? There are lots of good reasons to use Pro over Home.

Considering that you have no clue as to what, if any, problems the OP
may or may not be having with Home and blindly assuming that they want
to upgrade to Pro to fix these unknown and possibly non-existent
problems, this is terrible advice. A repair install is the next to last
resort in almost all cases anyway.
