Hdmi- dvi cable connectivity for ps3 to pc

can anyone help me how to connect the ps3 by using hdmi-dvi cable to my system LCD monitor
my lcd monitor has a vga port
i have nvidia 9600 gt graphic card i tried to connect the monitor to my graphic card by vga port and then i have connected the dvi port of hdmi-dvi cable to my graphic card and then the hdmi port to my playstation3 but nothing happened
i have done this because my monitor doesn't have dvi or hdmi ports
plz help me
