i will be using it for word processing and surfing the internet
my budget is $500 total. It can't be over $500 total including sales tax and shipping. Depends on where I end up buying the laptop. (@ best buy, shipping = $15 and sales tax for a $430 laptop is around $37, *=$482, which is acceptable.)

see above. i also have a hefty gaming machine that would be pretty fast compared to a laptop. i dont like slow machines and dont like waiting for something to load or something but i dont want to spend too much either. that $299 laptop has only one core so i might rule that one out myself since i'm used to dual cores. (i have a e8400)

any. dont have experience with hp or toshibas so i dont know from personal experience which is preferred
