Blaarrrgh!

I see all kinds of announcements of "free internet phone" crap, it all turns out to be PC to PC. PC to telephone calls are never free like they used to be!

So what is all this new stuff? Nothing more than an instant messaging program with voice? Doesn't Yahoo Instant Messanger already offer that?

Actually it's not that bad. A lot of work has been done on the protocol (voip). I have it here at home. Vonage is the service provider and it rides over your broadband connection. I got it because the wires in our neighborhood were way too old and the company (verizon) won't fix the problem. Sent em a nice long note and told em where they could put there stinkin service. We get excellent quality sound for less than half what Verizon was charging us. [/advertisement]
On another note, Ahead software (think Nero burning rom) makes a software program the works with your computer. The program will prolly set you back about 50$ but the calls are free. Pretty cool idea.

Homer: Son, a woman is like a beer. They smell good, they look good, you'd step over your own mother just to get one! But you can't stop at one. You wanna drink another woman.

All I know is thanks to calling cards at an all time low, I can call Lebanon for one hour for only 5$ CDN. 5 years ago, I paid 5$ for 3 minutes of talk there!

Now it's practically long distance calling charge. Gotta love that.
