Dear all, I am trying to assemble the homemade projector.but having the following problem.I cannot maintain the gap between the glass pane of the OHP and the LCD panel. It is not clear from the guidance pics that whether I have to rip the foam and place the LCD panel between that?It will be of great help if anyone guide me.

Right ... now I realise what your up to !!

Not many of us here remember that project - 6 years have passed by quickly !!

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/supersize-tv,918-9....

I helped a mate Craig build one of these using a 14" ACER LCD Panel a few years back.

I spaced the panel about 5 or 10 mm above the glass for one good reason ... HEAT from the bulb below in the OHP Case ... it heats the glass up quite a bit. Frank explains it in the link below - use packing foam.

Our concern was the heat below damaging the LCD panel.

Also, I put extra fans (fairly low RPM and quiet) in the side of the OHP box to pull the heat out.

I hope this helps.

Of course LCD projectors have dropped in price where they can now be bought for a fraction of the cost at the time Frank did the original article.

My friend Craig's homemade projector is still working ... 3 years on.

Works fine in a dark room ... emphasis on dark room.

Good luck !!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR REPLYING.
yes packing foam is used to maintain the distance.but should i rip the foam a bit and place the LCD panel in that gap?
OR
should i simply place the LCD panel just above the packing foam?

I would recess the top of the foam so the edge of the panel sits neatly with tape over the top.

Remember to align the foam along the edge in a nice straight line and it forms the edge of the "screen".

You can put foam all along two opposing sides but you need to place the fan and leave a decent airgap (use small pieces of foam for support on these sides) as the panel will get damaged otherwise.

Good luck.
