Is hdmi video only or is there audio too? Does audio need to be connected seperately?

HDMI includes digital audio and digital video: See here.

Now if you meant DVI (common on most video cards), then no - you have to run audio separately.

ATI video card will process audio so if you connect recent ATI generation video card to HDTV you will get sound via HDMI.

nVidia video cards do not process sound. You need to connect a pass-thru cable from the sound card or onboard sound to the video to get sound thru HDMI..
