I am hoping that someone has knowledge of HDTV screens--specifically Sony, and how they are assembled. My model is a Sony KDS-R50XBR1 which was purchased in April of 2006. My problem: The TV was set up in a Family room with a window directly behind it. The TV completely hides the window. I thought that by leaving the window open a bit, the fresh air may help with cooling the TV, especially in the winter. In the Springtime, I have a green pollen that appears and lasts for several days. It covers almost everything and turns my silver car---green! I never considered that the pollen could cause a problem for the TV. Apparently, when bringing in fresh air for cooling, the fans inside the TV also brought in the pollen. With a white background, I can see a lot of discoloration in the form of "streaks" which are on the INSIDE of the screen. They are now very, very noticable and people who see the TV notice the stains right away. With this Economy, I prefer to be able to put food in the on my table and not have to anti-up for a new HDTV while this Sony still works perfectly (after having the guts replaced TWICE by Sony under warranty). About a month ago I replaced the lamp and the set still has an awesome picture for it's age. Does anyone know if it is possible to get to the INSIDE of the LCD screen to clean it? I know that some Laptops and TV's have a shiny surface which is reflective and others have a matte (anti-glare) finish which is what my TV has. I have read of using suction cups to remove the front glass, but I don't know if I have a "front glass"! I also can almost guarantee that if I email Sony Tech Support, they will tell me that I have to buy a new TV. Before I do that, I will take the thing apart and see what I can do. I am just hoping for some knowledgable advise as to whether or not this can actually be done. If it can't, and I eventually have to buy a new HDTV, then I would want someone who really needs a TV to have this one. I'm not going to destroy it just for the heck of it! Anyway, I'm hoping that there is an outer shell of some sort that can be removed allowing me to blow out as much as I can and then clean the inside of the screen with distilled water and a little alcohol (a little Vodka for the TV and the rest for me). Any help at all will be much appreciated!
