I have a Dell Dimension 9150 that has 2 250Gb samsung hard disks in a RAID0 array and is running XP Media Centre.
Last week I turned the PC on and received a iastor.sys error and the PC refused to boot. Since then I have been trying to repair the PC and the current situation is that the boot screen shows the Intel Matrix Storage System array to be bootable but that the second drive has the message "Error Occurred (0) " After the boot screen I get a message telling me there is a problem with hal.dll
I took this disk out, connected to a 2nd PC using an external enclosure and ran a Hard Disk utility on it that claims to have found and recovered a bad sector. When I put the disk back in the Dell, the boot screen still shows that disk as "error occurred". Am I right in thinking that this is just because something (chkdsk ?) has put a flag on the disk that just needs resetting ? If so how can I do this , either in this PC or another ? If I reinstall Windows over the top of the existing installation, updating the Intel Matrix RAID driver, will I loose the exiiting data ?
The hardisks contain some data that I don't have backed up that I am keen to recover if at all possible.
