I have a friend that has a Dell Dimension E521 and it will not boot to windows, the power comes on, the power button is lit up and the fan runs but the screen is black and it won't let me boot to CD to run a diagnostic. There are 4 numbers on the front of the computer 1 2 3 4, the 3 and 4 are flashing. Is this an issue with the motherboard or hard drive? or cmos battery? Please help, Thanks

It's a memory problem. If there are multiple sticks of RAM, try 1 at a time.

Thanks for the info, you were right, one of the memory cards were not in all the way, just had to
pull the memory out and re-seat it in correctly, everything works now.
