Computer unlock delay

When I lock my computer, then unlock it, there is a delay of 45-60 seconds
during which the desktop is not visible. Programs are running, because I
sometimes hear a reminder tone from Outlook, but the desktop is not visible
until the delay is over. The mouse is visible, however. I am using XP
Professional on a domain that I have to login to. I have 1GB of memory and a
3GHz cpu speed. This has only started happening recently. I even ran msconfig
and went into diagnostic mode, and it did not help. I think a registry
setting has been changed somewhere...
