Most 5.1 headphones are a joke... I suggest testing them to see what you think.

They arn't worth it. Just get a nice set of studio headphones for about the same price and they will probably be better.
I got a pair of Sennheiser HD-280 headphones and they are absolutely amazing.

yeah right now i`m using sony mdr-v6 which is a "legendary studio" model but hearing so many people going on and on about 5.1 i thought i might give it a try. I know as far as home audio i would rather have an old tube amplifier with a single pair of b&w speakers over a entire room of amps and speakers.

Maybe. But I thaught the idea of headphones was contained sound and keeping out outside sounds.

thy i think they are really good as far as freq response and clarity
but they do not have a huge sound stage or transient characteristics a great set of home speakers such as b&w`s have. i guess thats because they have single drivers and are so close to your ears. thats not to say they aren`t great headphones; a comparable set of computer speakers would cost upwards of 500, and these headphones go for about 70

I dont think that 5.1 headphones are a joke, but maybe a work in progress.

A decent 5.1 home stereo is better then any headphone or computer speaker systems.

But, for 50.00US a 5.1 headphone is good for gaming, but not for music. I tried out some 5.1 headphones, they were good for gaming, plus have a great Wife/GF factor!

i`m not so sure i agree with that

My Sennheiser HD-280 headphones sound much better than my speakers and I've got a klipsch promedia 5.1 system w/ bookshelf speakers :)
They are only $79 on <A HREF="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000065BPB/qid=1109631468/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6349027-6042525?v=glance&s=pc&n=507846" target="_new">amazon.com</A>.

Do you perfer gaming with headphones or your 5.1 speakers?

Currently I use $50 Yamaha headphones, but I have been thinking about getting logitech 5.1 speakers.

I output digitaly to my home theater system, so this would be just for gaming.

I know when I switched from my old 5 year old Altec Lansing 2.1 system to headphone I could hear a lot more.

For example in a FPS I could hear doors/footsteps/reload noises from much farther away.

My headphones sound much better in games and stuff but I prefer using my speakers just because wearing headphones for hours starts getting a little uncomfortable. I also enjoy the nice bass my speakers have, lol. Theres nothing like having a grenade go off in HL2 and watchin ur windows shake :)

Polk are crappy speakers, but good/decent for a computer setup.
B&W are great speakers, but over priced.
