Hi All, I want to buy my husband an external DVD burner for his birthday in March. I am looking to spend around $100, give or take a few dollars. The one I'm considering is the Sony DW-D22A (external) burner - any thoughts? Or can anyone make some suggestions?

Sony is good, but I think the best in the field and has been for years is <A HREF="http://www.anothersite.co.uk/gallery/index.php?action=showpic&cat=7&pic=1872" target="_new"> Plextor Drives </A>

Get the SATA model if you have a spare SATA port on your motherboard.
If not the PATA models are for you, and looks like you will have to shop elsewhere than NewEgg.

Here is <A HREF="http://www.plextor.com/english/products/product_708Advdrw_drives.html" target="_new"> Plextors Website </A>

So I got me a pen and paper And I made up my own little sign</pre><p></font color=red>

Rock solid performance and reliability: Plextor. They have a few external models to choose from; you cannot go wrong with any of them. You may end up on the + side of your budget. It's worth it.

Buy a Plextor....definately a PX-716SA (SATA) $125.00 w/o shipping. I'm sure you can find it cheaper to. This was on Newegg.

A bit on off-topic, is the SATA chip on mobo smart enough to not make an issue if I connect to HDD's in RAID 0 and then a Plextor-716SA?

I suspect so, but have not tried it.

It should be. I had mine hooked up with both raptors on ch o, and ch 1. It should work on one of the sata ports while having the raid setup. Depending on your mobo of coarse. Mine can have 2 drives on promise controller, and 2 on the via.
