I need to allow a specific Limited Account user to change the system clock,
change time zones and, ideally, synchronize with an Internet Time Server on
demand - preferably from the built-in Internet Time page of the Date and Time
Properties dialog. This system is running Windows XP SP1.
I have successfully enabled this for the first two, allowing him to set the
clock (add this user to "Change the system time" User Rights Assignment of
Local Security Settings), and change the TZ (give this user write permission
for the HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/TimeZoneInformation registry
key).
The User Rights Assignment allows him to see the Date and Time Properties
dialog and set the clock, but changes to the TZ had no effect until that
registry permission was changed. I cannot, however, find a way to enable the
Internet Time page for him - the page is there and can be viewed, but it's
"greyed out" from the limited user account, but is not greyed out (and works)
for administrators.
Ideas how to enable the Internet Time page? Is what I've done so far
(especially the registry tweak) the best way to provide these privileges for
a specific user? Granting the user elevated privileges overall is not
permissible. We are not allowed to use PD or shareware utilities, so I'd
like to get the built-in Internet Time page working - this puts all the "time
stuff" in the same place, too.
