Problem deleting logical drive XP

hey all, i used this guide:
http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/how-to-merg...
and when trying to extend it says:

DiskPart failed to extend the volume.
Please make sure the volume is valid for extending.


here is the full list of commands i entered :

DISKPART> select disk 0

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

DISKPART> list partition

Partition 1 Primary 59 GB 32 KB
Partition 2 Extended 18 GB 59 GB
Partition 3 Logical 18 GB 59 GB

DISKPART> select partition 3

Partition 3 is now the selected partition.

DISKPART> delete partition

DiskPart successfully deleted the selected partition.

DISKPART> list partition

Partition ### Type Size Offset
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 Primary 59 GB 32 KB
Partition 2 Extended 18 GB 59 GB

DISKPART> list volume

Volume 1 D DVD-ROM 0 B

DISKPART> select volume 2

Volume 2 is the selected volume.

DISKPART> extend

DiskPart failed to extend the volume.
Please make sure the volume is valid for extending.

DISKPART> list volume

DISKPART> select partition 2

Partition 2 is now the selected partition.

DISKPART> delete partition

The selected partition may be neccessary to the operation of your computer, and
may not be deleted.
