I have narrowed my picks down to these two options to buy (unless you show me something better for the same price range)

Gateway Vs Toshiba

Toshiba has better processor and RAM abilities, BUT

Toshiba only has 32bit OS- and no HDMI

Gateway has ATI 3200- is that better than the toshiba?

i hope to buy a laptop by monday!! please let me know what you think. I am a big fan of toshiba, but do not intend to spend the 300+ on a 64bit OS and more RAM...gateway is ready and good to go

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK I SHOULD DO! these are both solid laptops for my price range ($500)

**and YES if you find/know of a better offer anywhere let me know!

i want 64bit-4GB-320GB- etc...

thx

Yes, the HD3200 is a better option than the GMA 4500 in the Toshiba. The Gateway actually has more RAM installed than the Toshiba.

This MSI is about the only other one I'd take a look at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6834152127

It's about on par with the Toshiba, but a little less. As long as you understand that you won't do any sort of gaming/intensive work on these laptops, I'd say get the Gateway.

i did some research on the HD2300 and thx for the confirmation about it being better.

The toshiba does have only 3GB and the gateway 4GB...but toshiba is max8GB and gateway is max 8GB.

i guess in the end i am asking is the Toshiba Intel Duo that much better than the AMD Athlon? (refer to the links)

RAM can be bought to upgrade to 4GB affordable

Is the Intel one better? Yes. Will you notice a difference with basic uses like web surffing and MS Word? No. If that's all you need the laptop for, then just get the Gateway.

got the gateway now-

i think i will be installing Windows 7 64bit because vista has so many issues while running some programs.

the gateway naturally as designed. has cosmetic weakness... the plastics... etc- but is a solid frame.

it does get hot- (from 1 to 10 ...10being OUCH) it is a 6-7

the computer runs very well and is great- a good investment i would say. rather than the hot lap :-o
