Hi everyone!

I am intending to buy a new laptop very soon, I found some (apparent :)) good bargains, and I havesimilar offers, for almost the same price and specifications from different retailers: there is an HP, a Toshiba, and an Acer..is there a more reliable brand ( I heard people complaining about Toshibas) among all this? More generally, what are the most reliable brands?

Thanks for your answers!

Out of three companies mentioned, Toshiba generally makes better laptops. Acer is famous for making cheap and cheerful laptops.

What’s your budget?

What’s the laptop main use?

Screen size?

Country?

Portability ?

Hi! Thanks for your answer :)

Well, my budget is around 750-900£, (I am living in England), but I could also take it from France (my native country, which in euros give a budget of 800-1000euros). I want a 17" screen, and it would be mostly for gaming..I don't care about portability/battery autonomy. I have seen the following computers:

-TOSHIBA - Satellite P300-275 : Core 2 Duo P7350 4096.Mo (2048x2) 1000.Go (2x500) Ecran 17.pouces ATI Radeon HD 4650 1024.Mo; price is 952eur, with a refund of 100eur from toshiba

-HEWLETT PACKARD - Pavilion dv7-2160 Blanc :eek:rdinateur portable Core 2 Duo P7550 4096.Mo (2x2048) 1000.Go (2x500) Ecran 17.3.pouces ATI Radeon HD4650 1024.Mo; price is 982 euros

-PACKARD BELL - Ipower GX-DM-015FR : Core 2 Duo P7350 4096.Mo (2x2048) 500.Go Ecran 17. pouces nVidia GeForce 9800 GTS 1024Mo; a bit more expensive (1059 euros)

-Clevo M860TU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53 Ghz - GeForce 9800 GTX - 2 Go RAM - DD 250 Go; price is 1000 euros

- Toshiba Qosmio X300-123 - Core 2 Duo P8400 / 2.26 GHz - Centrino 2 - RAM 4 Go - HDD 320 Go - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM - GF 9700M GTS TurboCache; price is 969 euros

Well that is already a large amount of choice, huh? :p

If you have any advice, I would take it :)

That Clevo is the best option on that list. It's not a 17'' system, but it will perform like one. Can't really go wrong, though I would probably add more RAM to it.

Erf the Clevo might not be available anymore actually, so I think I will go for the Packard Bell Ipower GX-DM-015FR : Core 2 Duo P7350 4096.Mo (2x2048) 500.Go Ecran 17. pouces nVidia GeForce 9800 GTS 1024Mo..it seems quite powerful (9800gts) and the price is not that more expensive, compared to the others. However, if you have any remark, I am listening (reading actually :D )

Ibnsina, thanks a lot as well for having done these researches, but I honestly find that the ones you propose are not as good as the ones I had picked at the beginning (they are usually more expensive for the same specs).

Anyway, thanks a lot to you both!
