I don't know *** about cameras and need suggestions for a good point and shoot within the $300 budget range. I need something with a good zoom for travel photography, and something that will shoot well at night/outdoors. Thanks!

Check these cameras: Fuji FinePix F70EXR or FinePix F80EXR / Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ6 or TZ7 / Canon's PowerShot SD960 IS or SD980 IS

Read more stuff here and check its competition, and read more reviews about it.

I just posted something about this in another thread:

Go with Canon. the Canon Powershot SD980 IS. It has 12.1MP, a 3" Touch Screen Display and it's full of features that makes it easy to use:

-Record HD videos
-Connects to HDTVs via mini-HDMI
-Optical image stabilizer prevents blurry pictures
-5x optical zoom & 4x digital zoom

It's in the $300 range you seek and it's VERY worth it. Oh and the software to download the videos and images is good, but you can easily just plug the camera into your computer, and drag & drop into a folder.

I work for TigerDirect and I don't normally promote specific products from our site, but this is a great deal by comparison to other retailers. Just to be safe, though, do some research on price and maybe you can find it cheaper somewhere else. Good luck! :)
