My computer keeps freezing when I attempt to scan it with my virus protection. I've tried it more then once and everytime I do. It stopps on: HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\http\Shell\open\command Only, I use firefox instead of Internet Explorer.. but when I do, just as of late, it has been freezing. Can the two be related in anyway. What can I do to fix the problem? Thanks in advance.

Do you have NIS 2009? Did you upgrade from a previous version or beta?
If so you might want to look at this article I found in about 2 minutes by googling the error note it stops on. Click through to the second item or use the second link below.

Norton Internet Security can be very difficult to remove from your sysem. I use it and when I bought a new version 2009 to replace 2008 I ran into issue removing 2008 first even after using the removal tool (see second link) . I finally had to go to NIS support on the Internet and let them take over my comuter and they removed it and installed 2009. If you have NIS. you might not have cleaned out an earlier version. You may need to remove the current one, use the removal tool, and reinstall. In my case, when I tried to nstall 2009 after using the removal tool it would not install 2009 but gave an error message. I then emailed NIS support - they responded with a couple of things to try and gave me a special website to contact if it did not work.

If you are not using NIS but some other AV program, I suggest going to their website to research the issue and if necessary contacting their support.

I would guess that the Firefox issue is related.

Please let me know what happens - or if this is off base. and I will try to help further.
