I'm working on a freinds computer and after I resolved a NIC problem the
computer lost the profile (ie: desktop settings, screen saver, and favorates
on IE) after reboot? I usually can find problems like this but am stumped.

This might help you get started in the right direction:

305506 - How to Identify a Damaged User Profile and Create a New Profile:

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile:

(you'll probably want this one too)

Micro$lop strikes again. Both those articles miss the step of logging in
as the new user before copying the profile. If that isn't done there is
no destination to Copy To...

You'd think M$ would get it right at least once concerning copying
profiles to a new user.

*chuckles* You know, I've read those articles a few times surely and never
noticed that that was missing. Thanks for pointing that out because when I
recommend those links again I will hopefully remember that they should log
on as the new account first.

No problem Galen. I try to find these threads and make sure people know
they have to do that in an effort to nip in the bud any "it didn't work"
replies.
