The computer turns on and I see the same image (sort of distorted) about 6 times

What could be the cause of this? Inverter or bad lcd?

lcd or graphics chip. try plugging in an external monitor. hit the function + monitor key (fn + f6 or something like that). If the monitor works fine, it is your LCD - if it doesn't - probably your graphics chip.

LCD damage - it's probably bricked, ebay it.

Graphics issue - you could try reseating the heatsink/thermal on the graphics chip to see if it's a temperature issue. But chances are you'll need a new motherboard.

there are small chances that it could be other issues, but maybe 1 out of 1000

my mistake - it could also be the inverter....get back to us on wheather the monitor test works, and we can go from there....
