Is there a log file which records the time and date when I switch on and off
my computer?

If yes, where can I view that file?

I want to check if someone has switched on my computer when I'm away.

Use the Event Viewer. Click start>run> type in the box "
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s " (without the quotes) click ok then
select security and read the logs.

Why type all this %SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s ?

When all you have to type in Start | Run is eventvwr and then click OK.
