Shopping for an AV receiver/control center that'll upconvert and reformat the output of my Magnavox CDV-485 laser disc player so it looks right on my 16:9 HDTV.

Didn't realize that by posting that question I'd become a member of the forum.

Greetings from Anchorage. I'm a cheapskate, but I am trying to get better. I don't want to replace all my laser discs, but the new TV doesn't play the old LDs very well. I know I can upconvert with a nice receiver, but it'll probably leave it in the 4:3 format if that's what I have for input, correct?

I can't stand the thought of looking at the videos all short & fat (stretched to fit the screen) and all of my LDs are letterboxed, so watching in 4:3 on a 16:9 TV will look like I'm watching a small box of video in the center of the screen.

Any suggestions?
