Hi,

So I'm looking to purchase a new keyboard. I'm looking for something comfortable to use both for gaming (FPS) as well as general use with fair amount of office work etc.

One condition, I'd like a blue backlit keyboard.

Comfort is still key and very important to me. So any recommendations?

Thanks.

I've just bought a Corsair K90 Vengeance Gaming Keyboard. It's too soon to give a proper verdict on it but the main typewriter, the arrow keys and the numeric keypad all use Cherry Red mechanical keys. The Esc key, the 9-block system and navigation keys (between the main and the numeric keypad) as well as the function keys use rubber dome switches. The difference feels funny but the keyboard feels good for typing.

In addition there's a vertical block of 6x3 "Gaming" (ie. macro) keys on the left hand side. These can be programmed to send whatever you want and you can setup three different sets of mappings program and toggle between them with three additional keys for that purpose.

Finally you've got multimedia keys and another key to disable the Windows-Start key, which is handy for gaming.

I got the keyboard because I wanted a mechanical keyboard that's backlit, has key lettering that won't fade within two months (I've been typing for way too long on a Logitech keyboard that only shows Q, Z, X, V, B and J, making it one company that's shattered its reputation with me).

I also wanted a rake of macro keys to help with programming, editing and sending windows to the right place on a three-monitor setup. That alone will be a huge boon given that "Windows" has, for decades, been as little about window usability as it's possible to be. (Does anyone ever use the Tile Windows layout more than just that first time, to see what it does? Lol)

As I say, it's too soon (one week) to give a used-in-anger verdict of the keyboard but I did a lot of reading of keyboard reviews and this one checked all my boxes and came out top, although, with those requirements the choice whittles down fast (and ideally I'd have had Cherry brown keys). I recommend exploring the GeekHack forums (keyboard enthusiasts) where you'll find keyboard reviews that go into detail that puts lesser site's motherboard and processor reviews to shame.

Ah, I've remembered one thing that I can report. If you're hammering away at one or two keys (eg. repetitive edits) the Logitech will slide across the desk whereas the K90 stays in place.
