More about upgrade
  1. It's a socket AM2+/AM2. It doesn't list the Phenom II as being supported.

    CPU Support

    * Socket AM2+/AM2 (940 pins)
    * AMD Phenom, Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64, Sempron processors.
    * Support HyperTransport 3.0 with backward compatibility to HyperTransport 1.0
    * Warning: not all the above processors have been qualified by Packard Bell.
    Please check with Support for valid replacement or upgrade CPUs

  2. thanks for the info. new mobo it is then. do i need to put a new os in?
  3. It's a 50/50 shot. Sometimes it will boot right up, and sometimes it won't. If it doesn't, you can boot off your OS disc, and do a windows repair.
  4. thanks for the help. its going to be a few weeks before i do the upgrade so no doubt i will have more questions to ask before spending my hard earned! cheers!
