Discussing or Selling Miniatures?

Has this become a place for only telling about the sale of miniatures,
or can we talk about stuff from the past? I've been in and out of the
fantasy figs world since 1976 and have an archive of stuff from the
years since. I've also got a bunch of molds ( in the original spelling
"moulds") from Linka from the early 1980's.These were molds that you
could make castles, buildings, or various train stuff from plaster for
15 or 25 mm scale replicas. I've never been able to find Linka stuff
since and would love to know whether this Scottish Company bit the dust,
or just stopped selling here in the states?
That's all for now,
Pat
Later, D&D stuff from 1976

Linka is a really interesting story:

Some guy decided it would be neat to make stuff so people could put
castles on their train boards. He invented the Linka line. For the time,
it was really good stuff! (I have a big box of it myself, that I got from
someone who was throwing out her ex-husband's "garbage"...)

However, he hated those deamon-possesed spawn who played those "devil
games" (Yeah, us...) So, he only sold to distritubutors who signed
agreements to only sell to "real" hobby stores, and not to anyone who had
anything to do with game stores. Anyone who got caught selling to gamers
were banned.

As a result, Linka went out of buisness. Awww...

The way I found all this out was because, back in the early 90's when I
had a gaming buisness, I pulled out old Dragon Mags (from the VERY early
issues) and track down the only ad that I one shop ran, advertising Linka
castles. The distributor was very clear about his "deal" with the
manufacturer, and told me he couldn't sell to me. So much for me selling
them through my buisness...

Now, we have Hirst Arts www.hirstarts.com to go to for this kinda thing.
They do better than what Linka did.

Hope that helps, James

Thanks to both of you for your replies, I went to Linkaworld last
night and am loading Hirst Arts up right now. One rather unique thing
you can do with the Linka molds is make miniature ornaments for the ol'
Christmas tree, I don't know how many of the castles, houses or log
cabins I've given away over the years, but I only have about nine here
for myself. Use the stone molds and put a door in the front, a window on
each side, and usually just plain stone in the back. Rather than cast a
roof, just use a plain solid section ( with the projecting bricks cut
off or one that has some missing from the molding process ), then just
add castellations. By varying the windows and doors, they can be
churches, houses, or log cabins. 'Course for the latter two, you needto
add a roofline and change to other molds. Fast to put together, they
take longer to paint
than they look because it's all detail work.
Thanks again,
Pat
