Media player mini mode not responding

Hi,

I use Windows XP home. My Media Player mini mode in the bottom toolbar has
suddenly stopped working. It is displayed but the play, stop, forward and
rew buttons are faint so I can't click on them anymore. The mute and volume
buttons are there but don't respond at all when clicked. I have tried to do
system restore but that hasn't really helped. Can anyone suggest what I
should do?
