Laptop lid close switch reversed?

I just replaced only the LCD panel on a friends Toshiba Satellite P300 laptop after they dropped it and cracked the screen.
Now the backlight only comes on when the lid is closed or just slightly open. When I open the lid, the light goes off but I can still see the display when I shine a light on it. So it seems that the lid close switch is somehow behaving opposite to the way it's supposed to. I can't find anything anywhere about this problem.
