Cannot erase DVD-RW

I burned on a DVD-RW, and now I would like to erase the disc. However when I choose 'erase this disc' Windows runs into an error and says that it cannot erase. Any ideas?

Have you tried to overwrite the DVD instead of erasing it?
When you try to overwrite a DVD it asks you if you want to erase it but somehow it works differently than just erasing it, at least it has worked for me.
Also try to erase it with different applications if you have them.

For a total wipe try formatting it again.
