Which new gaming rig?

I'm weighing the merits of these 2 similarly priced gaming PCs, which is the better choice?

AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6 GHz AM3 CPU
ASUS M4A77TD ATX Motherboard
ATI Radeon HD5770 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E Video
4 GB PC3-10600 1333 MHz DDR3 Memory
320 GB Seagate Barracuda SATA-II HD

or

Intel Core™ 2 Duo 8400 3.0 GHz 1333MHz FSB CPU
Gigabyte GA-P43-ES3G ATX Motherboard
GeForce 9800GT 512MB PCI-E Video
4 GB PC2-6400 800 MHz DDR2 Memory
Seagate 250GB SATA-II HD

Thanks for your advice

  1. Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

I would get the 1st option, 'cause have an ATI 5770 that is much better that the 9800GT. Also, have DDR3 against DDR2 of the 2nd option. The HDD is a litte more big.

Also, the 1st option is a quad-core against a dual-core, and the 620 can OC 20% or 30%, so, you can get 3.2GHz without problems.

Now, my question. What is the price of the rig?
  2. Thanks saint. I had noticed the 9800 was highly rated in THG's "Best Graphics Cards For The Money"article, and when I saw that the other system's card had twice the VRAM, I wasn't sure if it was because the 9800 was just that good, or what.

The Athlon system also comes with a more powerful PS (550w vs 430w with the Intel) and a fancier case, so I guess that's even more in its favor. Each of these are available from a local computer store for $799
  3. Yea, the 9800GT is a very good GPU but can't defeat the DX11 of the 5770 and the performance of this.

Give me some minutes to build the rig myself.

Ok, here are 2 options to build your self.

    1st OPTION

    1- CPU: Athlon II X4 620

    2- Mobo: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO

3- RAM: 2x2GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer

    4- GPU: ATI HD 5770

    5- HDD: Samsung spinpoint F3

    6- PSU: Antec 550W

    7- Case: Coolermaster HAF 922

    8- Keyboard/mouse: Microsoft

    9- Monitor: ASUS VW246H

    Price: $1,018.9

    2nd OPTION

The only change will be the processor for THIS

    Price: $ 1,031.9

If you have monitor, keyboard and mouse can reduce the price of this. Like i see, the $799 will be a good deal if have monitor, keyboard and mouse. Or spend a little more and build yourself.
