I just bought a new motherboard that has SP/DIF out (shaped like a RCA plug). I want to know if i can use a normal RCA cable to plug my computer spdif out into a audio/video controller (that my step dad has) with caox in. And then use the 5.1 RCA out on the controller and send it to my subwoofer with RCA in and get 5.1 surround? Will the controller convert the digital signal from the spdif into the 5.1 that can't read digital signal? If not will this work with my optical out thats on my video card? Any help is appreciated.

PS. The A/V controller thing is pretty nice and high end, tons of connections and crap.

What kind of audio/video controller do you have, do you mean a reciever/amplifier?

If it has a decoder then yes it would work.

Check your controller if it has SPDI/F RCA input and plug in there, then set your computer digital supported format.

You want to use a digital audio cable which is a 75 ohm coaxial cable. This describes any video cable or any RG-59 or RG-6 antenna wire with RCA connectors on both ends.

The spdi/f connection will work if your receiver has a coax input. Although you will have to switch the output on your pc to utilize the spdi/f instead of its analog outputs.

Ha! ha! ha! I don't know why I keep on writing SPDI/F when it's really S/PDIF.
