I just bought some Inspire p7800 7.1 speakers and I can only get 2 speakers to run.
What I'm wondering is if I need a sound card that has 7.1 to enable all the 7 speakers I have.

it sure wouldnt hurt to have a 7.1 card with 7.1 speakers. you won't get discrete 7.1 (meaning true surround sound, only "fake" surround). but i think your speakers have CMSS built in to make 2 channel audio faux 7.1. have you tried switching your speakers to CMSS mode?

It's an OS/driver thing. If all speakers are plugged in, you can sometimes emulate channels on the other speakers if you only have 2.1 channels hooked up. If they're all hooked up, make sure the Windows sound settings are for 5.1/7.1 sound, not 2.1.
