I have an Asus P5Q-E motherboard and the onboard audio has a fiber optic output among the other standard ones. When I connect the fiber optic output to my Onkyo receiver I can only get the front left and right speakers to work, nothing else ever has worked. I had Windows XP but loaded Windows 7 hoping it might help out but it doesn't.
Under the SPDIF interface options I can only select the 2 channel format and for the life of me I can't figure this out. I even bought another sound card thinking the onboard one had an issue but the other card does the same thing. I am about to go buy a shotgun and some ammo and lay waste to everything in sight at this point. What is the point of having a 7.1 surround system if I am only going to listen to movies and such with the front 2 speakers.
If I use the speaker playback device as the default device I can set it to 7.1 surround but I never get any sound out of my receiver.
Oh, and the soundmax audio settings only seem to show what I set under the sound options, I can't control the speaker settings and configuration through soundmax.
