Microsoft intelliexplorer tilt mouse sluggish

I just recently bought a new microsoft mouse (in subject) and I noticed the mouse wheel does not have to old clicking feel and insead is smooth. As for normal usage like work and browsing the web and such, the mouse is fine. However the mouse wheel is so sluggish and unresponsive when I'm playing games like counterstrike or any other fps game, where I usually use the mouse wheel to cycle through weapons and such. I tried th software that came with the mouse and it has a feature to accelerate the mouse wheel, but when that is active, the wheel becomes overly sensitive. Does anyone else have this problem?
