A friend recently upgraded his computer with a motherboard, CPU, RAM and video card that I had upgraded from. Everything is working except for when the Nvidia drivers are installed. Its a 6600GT video card and before I install the drivers it displays fine at 32 bit color but of course the the graphics respond slowly. After the drivers are installed it shows up only 800x600 in 4 bit color. The card works fine in another machine so I do not believe it is the card. A different monitor can be hooked up and that too is fine. His monitor is a Gateway FPD1975W 19" widescreen LCD. Oddly enough Gateway does not seem to provide drivers for their monitors as their web site has none and in my research I have found others who tell of their inability to find drivers for it as well. Now this monitor does have both VGA and DVI input and he currently has it going from the VGA. Is it possible that once the Nvidia drivers are installed the card is outputting digitally because its assuming the monitor is processing only in digital? It does have a DVI to VGA adapter on the back of the card. If he were to buy a DVI cable would it be possible this would solve the problem?
