difference between large LCD Monitors and small LCD TV's??

Hi. I'm currently looking for a large widescreen monitor, something in the 28-32 inches range, hopefully under $1000, but I can go as high as $1200. my reason is that I just want to get the biggest monitor I could possibly ever want, and not have to worry about getting another one again. right now, I have a 19 inch, and I've never really liked it all that much.

Anyway, down to my question: in my search, I found about 2 reasonably priced 28 inch monitors, both in the $500-$800 range. But I also noticed that there are several small TV's in the same price range that are a little bit larger (35 inches or so). so, I have to ask: what is the difference between a good 28 inch LCD monitor, and a good TV?
