Which of the following would be the best buy:

1) Corsair® DDR400 1024MB 184-pin: PC3200, CL2.5/3 clock, 6-layer PCB, Retail Package, life-time warranty

2) Corsair® DDR2 533 1024MB, 32Mx64, 240-pin DIMM : CL4 clock latency, 6-layer PCB, Retail Package, non-ECC

The latency on 1 is better than on 2. But 2 is DDR2.

Thanks,
Jan

Performance wise, they are about equal.

Which mobo will you be putting this RAM in? The RAM modules you listed are not interchangeable.

The Mobo is K8NF-939
specs:

GIGABYTE® nForce4 4X Socket 939 AMD K8 FSB1000 - 1xPCI-Express 16X, AC97 8CH AUDIO, Gbe LAN Connection, 4 x DDR400 (Dual Channel), 4 x SATA + 2 x ATA133, 3 x PCI, 2 x PCI-Express 1x, 10 x USB 2.0 (6 by cable), IEEE1394B, ATX

I see the memory i listed earlier is corsair "ValueSelect". Should i stay away from it?

Jammy hit the nail on the head - you will have to use DDR RAM.

Yip,

Thanks again for everyone's responses. Saved me a couple of bucks and got enlighted in the process :)

Cheers,
Jan

Which RAM did you go with?

I had to postpone my PC buying with a month or two because of a couple of unforseen expenses but included two Corsair® DDR400 512MB in my planned PC.

I am however considering to give the corsair a skip. The Corsair memory in my price range are "ValueSelect", and i am not too sure about its performance.

The rest of the rig so far.

K8NF-939 GIGABYTE® nForce4 4X Socket 939 MB
AMD® Athlon™ 64 3000+
nVidia® GeForce 6600, 128MB
Seagate® Barracuda™ SATA 80GB Drive

Already got the Case. Settled for the Cembro gaming bomb 1 (nice case for a cheap price)
