The ASUS has a GT240M 1GB DDR3, which is awesome. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDI [...] 654.0.html But those benchmarks are not for DDR3 I don't believe. So I'm assuming it's substantially better than those stats.
However, is it better than the 4650 from the HP laptop?
*Another point of interest is that HP laptop is 17.3" and not 15.6" like the ASUS.
*HP laptop has 4GB DDR2. But for ASUS, the type isn't specified.
*HP has "up to 2815MB total available graphics memory with 1024MB dedicated." The ASUS says 1GB DDR3 VRAM.
I will be using the laptop for pretty much everything, work + entertainment.
Can anyone help me decide?
Thanks in advance!

If you look at the complete list from notebookcheck.net, the HD4650 is listed a little higher than the GT 240M, but it depends on the game. DDR3 may make a little bit of difference for the card, but nothing huge.
With the HP it means that it is going to take some of your system memory and use it for the video cards. Having up to 2gb of VRAM is pretty much useless for these graphics cards since neither will really be able to play games at high resolutions and high detail.
From what I can tell, the Asus uses DDR2 memory just like the HP. Also keep in mind that the Asus has a faster HDD.
Personally, I think I would choose the Asus. I'm not really a fan of HP and having dealt with a heavy 17'' laptop for 2+ years, I can say that I would avoid getting one again. Oh and the CPU in the Asus is also faster, so that's another plus.
