what do you think of the pioneer 109 16x burner?? I hear its supposed to have less errors than the plextor...
It has been many years since my Plextor drives made a coaster out of a disc.
Can't see how much more error free they could get.

I did not state they had errors, but all drives, hard drives, ect have a tolerance for read/write errors, and I suppose that is what he is reffering to.
A dirty or scratched disc may play, but will take long to read because of errors encountered, and if there are too many, it won't play.
Plextors are very high quality drives, as are Pioneers.

For the money, the NEC 3520
If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one thath will go wrong first will be the one that will do the most possible damage
I was just reading a review here on the drive...
http://www.techspot.com/reviews/ha [...] ndex.shtml
This guy suggested the LG 4163B. I was looking at that one a while ago and then read a review somewhere that the pioneer 109 was nicer than the LG. But I was just told that the pioneer 109 wasn't that great at all. And now I'm all confused...check out the review and let me know what you think... should i spend the extra money on the plextor... is it worth it... or should I go with the LG, or NEC, or Pioneer for that matter???
THanks
oh yeah... I forgot to mention that I'm going to be using the burner for ripping everything.. so its got to be able to make proper backups of protected media...etc.... So now... which do you think is the best?...thanks alot...
Luke
If you're undecided read the negative reviews for each drive at newegg, you're going to get a lot of opinions from different people, and sometimes it will tell you which media doesn't work well with a particular drive.
Plextor are supposed to be the best but I haven't had one of them. NEC is great, SONY has disappointed me.

Troy is a great movie, Achilles weakness was more than his heel wasn't it. Thats a good burn rate, my Plextor is probably the best burner I've owned yet, no complaints here at all.

I was reading some of the drive review and found this drive
Samsung TS-H552U
here's the review if you want to look at it...
http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/203
it looks pretty nice... what do you think?
It looks pretty good, what's the price.

The price for the samsung burner is between $50 and $60 CAD.
hmm why was my post about the plextor with it being not able to burn any sheep deleted???
FYI sheeps are the specs that is used to determine how it burnes stuff like safedisk and junk... i find the site that explains all this in a sec
here is a way to test ur drives:
http://forums.makeabackup.com/viewtopic.php?t=744
and a little list of what sheep drives are:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/45121
FYI: three sheep burners are hard to come by, it is becausse of the specifications that the industrial burners are much better than your regular destop/laptop burners

well the thing is, unless you test it our your self no "big" trustworthy sites and magazines will test it for you (mostly because the people use these burner in a bad way) and that the only way to find one is by googling and find like 5+ hits on a same kind of drive and then buy it and get like 3 three sheep testing programs and try it out burning the sheep files onto hte disk. this is all too much work for me lol i can say that the LiteOn series are somewhat excelles in this area as that they are ripoffs of the pioneer stuff, but with little "extras", its a good place to look and if you got the $$ to try these drivers, let me know.
hint: if you live near a major store where they sell these things then use the retuen policy of the store ^.^
sometimes these tesing programs varies and thus you might get a confirm on one program and then fail with another...
quote from cdfreaks:
"I do not believe any DVD±burners exist that are 3 sheep burners. that is hard to do, and 90% of users will not need it."
this would explain the situtation of these three sheep burners as that two sheep is motsly good enough unless of course you are burning somehthing really really really really "messy"
and i think that some of these driver making companies are getting prressure from all over to NOT make any 3 sheep burners as that this techology is EVENTUALLY be the stuff that will be for the regular cds and stuff to disencourage pirating...... i think the techologies to make a 3 sheep desktop burner is here but....
Edited by TheHolyLancer on 06/14/05 01:48 AM.

read the eidt
i think i explained it pretty well
well i try tommrow right now i need to somehow get that usb key from my dad.... man i should really really really really get one for myself.....
btw toshiba drives sucks!! mine still don't work (not burning anything), the only benefit of this is that i learned alot by tring to fix it (the sheeps are part of my investigation, though that sheep ment how good quality a driver is because toshiba sdr5272 didn't burn any of the files......)
