i have reloaded a number of toshiba Laptops that are now not coming with
recover cd's but a recover partition. the company that i work for has around
100 pc's that are hired out and it got me to wanting to know if i could get
this same software install it on the desktops with the hidden partition. it
would be a great tool for our clients as they often have to pay us to
recover( which we are presently using Acronis which is great and easy) but
they could do this themselves saving them money, and me the time that i could
be doing more constructive things. can anyone tell me of this pre boot
software. i notice that Toshiba is usiong some sort of Symantec product.

I don't know what you mean by preboot software.
A line is added to the boot.ini file for the option of booting the Recovery
partition.

One problem to overcome using the Recovery partition is that a format can
not format the whole disk or put another way, the recovery partition must
not be for formatted during a recovery.
