I've had this Gatewat FDP2485W since January of 2007, and in the last 6 months I've noticed a smokey film in the lower right corner. The image comes in fine, but with a loss of brightness about 4 inches long and 2 inches high in the lower right corner. Its not cut corners, but seems like a smokey covering.
What's going on with my monitor? Other than that, it's a terrific picture.
The brightness of LCD monitors are not uniform. The backlighting tends to be brightest in the middle and should only dim slightly while moving away from the center under ideal situations. Lower end monitors tends to have less uniformity than more expensive monitors from illumination map tests. However, that does not mean more expenisve monitors do not suffer from this issue over time.
Perhaps that patch has always been there, but you have not noticed it until recently. In any case, what you are seeing is normal.
