Can anyone shed some light on why this http://www.flickr.com/photos/37920580@N05/3993985362/ happened to my laptop, out of the blue the screen started to show these stripes while i was watchin sumthing with VLC and then it rebooted and have been looking like that ever since, cant even make it into windows.

Is it the videocard or motherboard or WHAT?

Unfortunately, this is a video card which is usually soldered on the motherboard.
You can try to reseat the cable which goes from the screen onto motherboard, but it may not help, so you'll need to replace a motherboard.
You could also try to connect to external monitor to see how it works there. If it's the same, it's definitely a video card on the motherboard issue.

Check if your machine is under warranty still.

like happy said, cant say more. but its the video chip got very hot and burned a part of it. needs new mobo realy
