Dvi-d dual link

well i just ordered an hdmi to dvi-d single link cable from newegg for my ps3, i have a 22 inch lcd monitor which im going to have the ps3 hooked up to, after ordering the cable (which im pretty sure its too late to cancel) i noticed that my monitor had a dvi-d dual link plug in so i was wondering, will the single link look just as good as the dual link, the monitor only displays at 1680 x 1050 and im not sure what the max resolution was for dvi-d single link

also, i heard some people saying that one could put the ps3 on 1080p and it will downscale it which would look better than 720p upscaled, is that true? and to put it in 1080p would i need dual link,

wish i knew the max resolution of single link

I have a 24" at 1920x1200 and it's running just fine on a single link at 60hz. You don't need dual link until well above 1080p.
