I have been recieving the "Cannot request assigned IP
address" error on my xbox. I have the router set to DHCP
and the xbox to obtain IP's automatically(used to have it
set up manually which has been working until now). I
have the latest software/firmware.
My DHCP pool is set 192.168.2.30-40 (used to be 2-40) and
my Router IP is outside of that at 192.168.2.50. DMZ did
not work either, as I still recieved that error. What is
the deal with it renewing IP's? Is there any idea on
future updates so that the lease time for IP's can be
lowered to below 15 minutes as the Linksys products can
be around 2-3 minutes.

Thank you

How many devices are in your "DHCP Client List"?

It sounds like you ran out of IP addresses to me (your server is only
giving out a max. of 11 IP's).

The xbox's MAC address by default should start with 00-50-F2-**-**-** as
that is the starting sequence for Microsoft networking products.

How can it run out of IP addresses if I only have 2PC's
(both set for Auto config) and 3xbox (set to auto
config). All of which are not on at the same time. They
should all be able to be on at the same time anyway if I
have 192.168.2.2-40 available right?

Someone could have hacked in wirelessly to your MN-500 and taken IP's
from the router. I strongly recommend enabling MAC filtering as well as
128-bit WEP to secure your wireless connection. Another thing that can
increase wireless security is disabling the DHCP server & changing the
LAN IP address range to something other then the default 192.168.2.*
range. One last thing the lease can run anywhere from 15 minutes to 14
days which means the IP is still being used even if the device is off.

I've an alternative: would you be connecting (without
realizing) into your neighbors wireless net, heh? ^.^

Make sure you are not using the default MSHOME SSID.

I'm not connecting wirelessly. I have my network setup
for MAC filtering and have my DHCP range set to
192.168.2.30-40 as previously posted. I have my wireless
setup though for 128 bit encryption, SSID is not
broadcasted. I don't think there's anyone in my little
area that would be able to get in. I have also changed
the default addy to the router from the 192.168.2.1.

What messages are you getting in the router security logs
whenever you try to connect with the XBox?
