I have a 2200+ AMD and I'm running 512 MB 2100 Ram.
I'd like to get a faster processor and the ram to match, but i'd like the ram now, and the processor next year. What type of ram should i get? I don't plan on overclocking my processor to 3200 levels or anything, i'll just be buying a new one. Suggestions?
PS. I'm new to this.

The good news is, RAM is hella cheap right now and you could buy PC3200 for the same price as PC2100. That PC3200/DDR400 module will run at lower speeds, so you could be buying more memory for your current system, yet at the same time have it ready for your next system. The bad news is, you just can't plop a new CPU in yer mobo above a certain point. I would have to know yer mobo specs, but Im guessing it only supports 266FSB, maybe 333, so they best you could do would be around the 2700+ range give or take a few. I would suggest looking into a socket 939 motherboard/cpu, but regardless, go with the PC3200 since it's the same price as the other stuff.

Just bought the ABIT NF7 which supports the 400 FSB so i should have no problem. Well, other than the one i've stated in the CPU section (can't get it to run full speed with the CURRENT processor, much less a new one!)
So, i guess i'll go buy myself a gig of 400 then!
Thanks

If you not overclocking theres no need in buying RAM that is faster than the CPU.
