Dear Friends,
I'm having some problems with the ADSL I have just installed.
Although the max bandwidth is 256kbps, I am only getting 40 to 50 kbps.
This problem happens only with my computer. I installed the ADSL modem in my brother's computer and it worked with the max bandwidth.
The strange thing is that in both computers the connection was made with the same adsl modem, same ethernet PCI card and same phone line. So why it is not working properly in my computer ?
My set is a AMD k2-300, mobo epox ep-58MVP3c-m, 256 MB RAM.
My brother's is Pentium III 800, asus mobo and 64 MB RAM.
My slow PC can make things work slower but I guess it has nothing to do with the bandwidth.
It makes no sense.
This ADSL connection should work even with a Pentium 133.
See, I'm no expert (maybe one will crop up) but I'm under the impression that your PC is an integral part of those tests. Unless they're simply pinging it, then it makes no sense.
Good luck.
It's always the one thing you never suspected.
Sounds to me like you need to tweak your MTU's and Rwin ( maximum transmission units and receive window) I strongly recommend you go to www.dslreports.com. download Dr.TCP, run the tweak test on the "Tools" page, run Drtcp and set the recommended numbers from the tweak test into the mtu and rwin windows, reboot and run tweak test again followed by a speed test. You will need to know if you have a PPPoE or other type connection . The forum boards there are excellent also for advice much like the boards here at Tom's
