I am building a new system for video editing, the MB uses PC3200, I plan on buying 3G of memory, I notice that a module will vary in price, whether it is 1 stick 2 stick etc. I am trying to understand the quality differences so I can make a wise purchase,I searched the forum and found the below thread, however I am still unclear as to the differnces, one refernce was made to a OCing thread howver I was unable to locate. Can anyone assist.

Question about RAM specs

"I was wanting to buy some ram and wanted to know how to spot quality RAM. I already know the difference between PC-133 , PC-100, DDR-400 (PC-3200) , DDR-333 (PC-2700) and so forth. I also know that the lower the CAS latency the better, i.e. 2.5 is faster than 3. The thing I'm not sure about is the #'s that refer to... hmm, i guess you call it the architecture. Like how some RAM is 64x64 and other times you'll see 32x8. I'm wondering what do these #'s mean and what is the best quality? What in your opinions is "good enuf"?"

Thanks for the reply, although I want to understand, I am not planning to OC or anything like that just looking for STABLE ram that can handle the task, I heard that cosair has a good rept and found the following latency specs:*2-3-3-6 / 2.5-3-3-6" , I did not see anything about CL stats. I willdo as suggested to make sue that even amount of slots are used, do you have thoughts about the specs above.

I don't know a lot about memory. You should ask BrentUnitedMem or cruciallabs, those guys are pretty good. you could ask wusy he's good also.

4Gig is not a problem at say $100 each, if i need to spend more per module I will just get 2- 1 gig modules for now and 2 later.

I should have provided more details of the MB just didn't think anyone would want to have to read all of it; The MB I have is ASUS P4C800E Deluxe 478 socket with 875 chipst,DDR400 up to 4GIGs(4slots) supports a P4 3.2 with 800FSB. Thanks again for the input!

It is never too late to return; the problem I face is the PCI slots, I own a canopus that must have a PCI slot that operates at either PCI32 MHz or PCI 64MHz, if you know of a mainboard that meets this requirement I'm all ears.My current config cost me around $469 for a 3.2 gig P4 with HT and the ASUS 800FSB and DDR2 400.
