From time to time my speakers would make this loud static noise. I'm pretty sure it's not the motherboard's problem because it made the noise after I unplugged it from my tower. The speakers are really new too, I've heard that cell phones can cause such problem, is this true or is it something else?

It could be alot of things. Even a nearby leaky transmision line.

I've had low end desktop speakers do this when put too close to anything that produces a decent strength electronic signal (a cell phone usually does the trick :D).

Just make sure to place some distance from the speakers from portable electronics, and you should be fine.
