I was in the process of mapping out some new partitions on my PC using the computer management tool in Windows XP and accidentally deleted the partition with my data on it as opposed to the one without my data.

• The partition in question was on my 250gb Western Digital HD.
• It did not have my OS on it. (That is on a different drive)
• It was the primary partition and there were no other partitions on that drive. i.e. I had one 250GB (actually 230GB) partition.
• The drive was full to the brim, but not too fragmented as I run a decent defrag program every few days to rejoin files etc.

I started to read up some of the windows knowledge base ways of recovering the partition using the backup info at the end of the drive, but to be honest Microsoft are not renowned for giving clear instructions so I decided to leave it. I hope I haven’t damaged anything but the only thing that I have done to the drive since the partition was deleted (as part of Microsoft's instructions) was to Recreate the original volume (but I did NOT format it).

Please can someone recommend a cheap program that will recover my data efficiently?

Someone please unwire me...the gadgets are taking over!

Why not use your backup to restore the data?

Active Partition Recovery will find your old partition and rewrite the partition table so it will show up again.
